Get Your Walk On #2:
Admiral Twin's The Center of the Universe
Go for a walk. Outside. It’s spring. And while you walk in the new warmth of the sun, here’s the warm pop soundtrack: Admiral Twin’s The Center of the Universe.“Good as Gold” takes the best Beatlesque, non-eccentric moments of XTC and Adrian Belew. This track leads off the album like the fertile pop ground from which the rest of Admiral Twin’s sound grows. Overall, it is a sound that recalls a late 80’s/early 90’s sound where pop rock meets smart rock meets electro/synth beats which I remember in groups like the Dylans and the Soup Dragons. Admiral Twin’s “In My Veins” goes toward a School of Fish and Melismatics band rock feel.
Yet, the point when your spring walk with Admiral Twin will cause people to stare at you as move, spin, and jive to the music is “Smash It Up”—a full-on, rhythmic joy on a tom-tom groove march as exemplified by White Rabbits.
