Less is More:
Kate Voegele’s Don’t Look Away
Kate Voegele is like a less jazzy Rachel Yamagata while also being a less American Idol Kelly Clarkson. She’s a less pop dance rock Michelle Branch. Voegele has less distinct guitar lines than Jennifer Knapp and less groove than KT Tunstall.Less is more, because it begins to set Voegele apart from the myriad of women singer/songwriter comparisons, but less will truly be more when more comes. Voegele’s niche will be ready when there’s more like “Top of the World.”
Other tracks that show that there’s more to come are “One Way or Another,” which has that Mark Croft grooved up rock with hints of rap sing. “Might Have Been” lets in some 80’s rock and R&B along with some O.A.R.
Thanks to Kate Voegele and Myspace Records for the review CD.
