Where Have All the New Reviews Gone?: Owen, Morrissey, and Daddy
Our newest adoptive son, Owen Benjamin, was quite a little surprise being born Saturday, May 12, at 6:06 PM--about four weeks early. He and his birthmom, Kati, are doing great. Owen weighed in at 5 lbs. 11 oz. and 17 inches long.
Unfortunately, I didn't get the news until 12:30 AM Sunday when I returned home to a frantically blinking answering machine. I had been in Milwaukee for a Morrissey show (the greatest concert in my life, although that seems trivial to the fact of our third son being here, but of course, the full, gushing review will be coming soon). finally got to meet him--and name him--the next morning, about 13 hours after his birth.
And unfortunately, my wife Susan and our other two sons Samuel and Jude were still in Kentucky visiting her folks. I called Susan after I got Kati's family's messages, and she quickly made a plan with her parents to drive back the next morning. They're on the way, and thanks to her parents (and nephew Charles and niece MaryCathryn for accompanying the gang up to Merrilville). They'll arrived Sunday evening when Susan and I quickly went up to the hospital so she, too, could meet Owen.
That's the update for now. We'll keep you posted. Owen should be able to come home with us in the next couple of days. We praise God for this little one, for Kati and her family, and for the way He is working in our lives.
Interestingly, I noticed after the Morrissey show an eleven year old kid who was there with his dad. I had wondered in the back of my mind how long until I might be bringing one of the boys to his first Morrissey show. Now I only hope that I can take Owen to see Moz--the man who was singing his daddy's life even while Owen was first arriving to his own life.
