Electronica: Slaraffenland's Private Cinema

Like a movie’s opening credits, Slaraffenland’s Private Cinema opens with the overture-like “Sleep Tight” out of which emerges a pop song foundation two-thirds into the track, spinning out of a fluttering flute and screeching horns. So these Danes greet us with their combination of art rock, punk, orchestral emanations, and non-digitalized electronica.
“Show Me the Way” couples a Polyphonic Spree choral approach with less broad strokes and more groove. An acoustic guitar line on top of the art rock on “Polaroids” returns to that pop song foundation hinted at in the overture. “The Run Up” is like a Sufjan Stevens outtake.
It’s not all dreamy, though. “This One Will Kill Us” comes on with punk garage echo before falling apart into an art rock canon of voices and a screaming sax before a punk Polyphonic Spree returns. Then there’s the sonic mess over the chain gang rhythmic pounding of “Rød.”
Thanks to Slaraffenland, Hometapes, Rumraket, Honningmand Records for the review CD.
