College/Art Rock: The Vaz's The Lie That Matches the Furniture

Vaz and The Lie That Matches the Furniture could quickly just become nothing but speed metal drums and guitars if it wasn’t so darn jazz conscious, an artful take on panic-inducing guitars, Pixies stabs, rhythm fills that interrupt the machine gunning, and the pop-rousing of Sonic Youth.
The wonderfully titled “Mensa Beast” is an interlude just shy of a minute and is a weird jazz organ interlude such as the Doors might have produced with the dark mumbling lyrics of Jim Morrison. “The Blue Hour” is haunting and chant-like. David Lynch may need to use the xylophone interlude of “Wined and Blind.” There’s also the spastic jazz of “Sink the Swan” which taps into Adrian Belew’s muse.
Thank you to the Vaz and Narnack Records for the review copy.
