WIN A TOO MUCH COUNTRY CD PRIZE PACK!
Featuring Dierks Bentley

Modern Day Drifer
Since beginning Music Spectrum in December 2003, I have grown in my appreciation of music that ends up in the Country part of the Spectrum. However, after spending a few days in Nashville in July, I now know what is too much country. I enjoy AltCountry, Country Rock, and Country Folk, but I still just can’t seem to order a straight shot of Country without putting it on the rocks.

However, Dierks Bentley is among a new crop of Country musicians who are doing something that is worth mentioning: they’re writing their own music. Rather than the trend of Brill Building-like Nashville Country industry music-churning factory stuffl, Bentley and others are penning their own tunes and lyrics. Bentley’s only been recently signed to Captiol after working independently to get his start. His album, Modern Day Drifter, is still too much country for me—which is why I’m giving it away—but there’s some good stuff here.

The highway pace of “Cab of My Truck” makes it a good, ol’ country rambler with great turns from the band. On “Good Man Like Me,” the Del McCoury Band join Bentley for an Appalachian blues—albeit straightened out a bit for the country mainstream.

If you’re looking for some real country music, you’ll find even more on Bentley’s album, but for me, it’s just too much country, which is why there’s the Too Much Country CD Prize Pack.
